Frequently Asked Questions

Remember You are Enough, You are Whole and You are Worthy.

What can I expect from therapy?

Respect, trustworthiness, transparency and honestly. A sense of hope. Collaboration. A safe space to learn about your thoughts, feelings, choices and responses. Strategies to find your resilience, strengths, self-care practices and new tools to help you thrive in your work performance and relationships.

I'm ready to schedule a session, what can I expect in the first few sessions?

In the first few sessions, I work to truly understand your situation, all of the context, and how you've been impacted by significant life events. All the context will help guide me in tailoring therapy to your specific needs. We will work collaboratively to identify your goals and set up a recommendation for therapy.

I typically meet with clients once a week for 50-minute sessions. We can decide whether to meet in person or we can schedule through my video therapy platform, if you reside in California.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Absolutely Yes! Your right to privacy and confidentiality is of the utmost importance to me, and is also protected by federal law, state law, and our professional ethics code. With certain exceptions, nothing we talk about is shared without your written consent.

What are the exceptions to confidentiality?

As mental health professionals, we are legally required to report suspicion of child abuse, elder and dependent adult abuse, intentions to commit suicide, or threats to do physical harm to yourself or another person. We also may be required to share information during certain legal proceedings.

What is the rescheduling and cancellation policy?

It's important that we meet on a consistent basis in order for therapy to be the most effective. Sometimes there are barriers that get in the way of you being able to meet with me at my office, I offer online therapy where you can connect for a session while you're in the comfort of your own home or office. All you need is an internet connection and a private space to chat. Please call at least 24 hours before your session (within 5 business days) to avoid the late cancellation/no show fee and I will attempt to reschedule you that same week.

Rates and Insurance Questions

What is the procedure regarding payments?

You can pay privately for your sessions or I can provide a super bill (if requested I will send to you monthly), which can then be submitted to your insurance provider for out-of-network mental health benefits. These benefits will vary depending on your coverage and provider, and you should contact them prior to starting our work to confirm your coverage and reimbursement percentages. If you'd like to inquire about fees and insurance information, please don't hesitate to schedule a free consultation.

What is out-of network benefits?

I work with clients insured by many insurance companies on an out-of-network basis. My license, training, and education qualify for out-of-network reimbursement. This means that most insurance plans allowing members to go out-of-network for mental health will reimburse you a percentage for our work. Please contact your insurance to verify your benefits and eligibility for outpatient therapy services i.e. co pay, deductible and authorization for service.

What are some questions to ask my insurance company about my out- of- network benefits?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible and how much of my deductible have I met?

  • How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?

  • Is authorization required in advance?

  • Is a diagnosis required for services to be covered?
